Dear Mrs.Zrihen,
I just finished reading Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins. It was the best fiction book I ever read. It was because of some of the interesting passages and phrases that had twists. The certain passage is on page 130. It says'' Peeta sighs. Well, there is this on girl. I've had a crush on her ever since I can remember. But I'm pretty sure she didn't know I was alive until the reaping.'' That passage means that Peeta is in love with Katniss which will help them later on in the games.
Just before I started reading I used strategies such as predicting what would happen. My prediction was that the main character would have to be set in the woods and find food on her own. But what I didn't predict is that they would have to kill other people to win a little game for food also. Also I read the back to get an idea who the characters are and what the story is based on.
While reading I would read slowly so I would more understand the text. Also when I would start reading, I would read the sentence before the one I left off at to remember what happened.
After I finished reading I summarized the book in my head with detail. I cannot say it because it is to long but I can summarize it. Katniss is very poor and lives in District twelve. When she volunteers to go for Prim in the Hunger Games, she recognizes someone and that someone is Peeta. They will eventually put their minds together in order to get both of them out alive. Another after reading strategy I did is notice what the cover picture means in the book and it is the gold mocking jay the mayors daughter gave Katniss. Those are all my reading strategies.
The characters in the story are Katniss Prim and there mother, Gale, the Mayor and Peeta. The setting is Panem a nation with 12 districts in it. The time is not mentioned but I believe it would be present day. The conflict in the story is mam vs. man and is that Katniss and Peeta have to fight for their lives along with 22 other tributes and only 1 can make it out alive. the tone is sad considering it's about death and a lot of it. The mood is also sad because of all the death of innocent people that is described. The theme is caring, because of Katniss caring for her family and Rue and Peeta. The point of view is that you sould never dout a good friend even if it seems like you should. The author is bias because of what he thinks. The genre of the book is sci-fi because the places are not real and that the healing potions are magic because no one can heal a huge sword wound and Peeta got it super dirty with mud and nothing happened.
I couldn't believe someone would make people kill eachother even for revenge and entertainment because that is just cruel. I rate this book on a scale of one to ten a 9 because of all the action.
Sincerley,
Isaac Paley
