Dear Mrs. Zrihen,
I just finished reading city of Bones by Cassandra Clare. It was amazing although it was long. There was a passage that caught my eye while I was reading. It is on page 441 and it is ''Yes. he said, cutting off Jace before he could speak, Jocelyn is your mother, Jonathan. And Clary-Clary is your sister.'' That was key because it shows how tricky the antagonist Valentine is, trying to trick Jace to believing Clary is his sister.
The 6 reading strategies I used were reading the back of the book before I started so I can get an idea what it was about. Also I read the reviews of other authors to see what they said. During reading I read the last sentence I left off with to see if I remember what's going on before I continue. Another one I did is read slowly so I can understand the text better. After I read the book I made sure I understood the book before I wrote about it. Finally, when I was totally done I read the back so I could have something to bring me back to certain details in the book.
The main characters in the book were the Clary, Jace, Simon, and Isabelle which were the protagonists, and Hodge and Valentine which were the antagonists. The setting in the book is NewYork city all over. The time is not said but seems present. The conflict is that Valentine wants the mortal cup which is a powerful device that could destroy the shadowhunters which are the good people. They hunt demons. The tone is serious considering the conflict. The mood is afraid of what will happen to the protagonists in the end. The theme in the story is friendship. The point of view is that you should not betray your friend. The genre in the story is scientific fiction because of all the high tech weapons they use. The moral of the story is to also not betray your friends because it will come back around to you. This book shows how that if you trust a friend you can get through alot of things. I agree with the author on writing this book on demons because kids love demons and it is very suspensful. I reccomend this book to 7th grade and up because 6th grade would not understand it as much. On a scale of 1-10 I rate it a 7 because of it's suspense.
Sincerely, Isaac Paley
